Citizenship Stations

This week at the RBE Library, 2nd grade students are studying citizenship. They are going to come to the library to engage in some stations all about Americans who exhibited the traits of great citizenship and complete THIS activity sheet!

In the stations, they will use computers, laptops, iPads, and some articles from EBSCO to learn about Abigail Adams, Paul Revere, Sojourner Truth, the Women Airforce Service Pilots from World War II, and the Navajo Code Talkers from World War II.

 

 

Station 1

Paul Revere

Students will use the Biographies on Pebble Go and search for Paul Revere.  Students will listen to all the events on the Timeline, and then watch the video below.

 

 

Station 2

Sojourner Truth

Students will use the Biographies on Pebble Go and search for Sojourner Truth.

Students will listen to all the events on the Timeline, and then watch the video in Pebble Go.

 

 

Station 3

Abigail Adams

At this station, students will watch a mini biography of Abigail Adams. Students will also examine an article from EBSCO called Adams: Colonial Women of Courage  (Citation: Hopkins, Karen S. “Adams: Colonial Woman Of Courage.” Hopscotch 16.4 (2004): 10. Primary Search. Web. 15 Jan. 2013.)

 

 

 

Station 4

Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP)

At this station, students will examine two articles from EBSCO about the WASP’s. The first article is Women in the AirForce (Citation: “Women In The Airforce.” Monkeyshines On America (2004): 25. Middle Search Plus. Web. 15 Jan. 2013.) The second article is Flying Into History (Citation: “Flying Into History.” Weekly Reader News – Senior 88.22 (2010): 2. Middle Search Plus. Web. 15 Jan. 2013.)

Students will also watch the short video below about the WASP’s.

 

 

Station 5

Navajo Code Talkers

At this station, students will examine two articles from EBSCO about the Navajo Code Talkers. The first article is Navajo Code Talker (Citation: Newman, Patricia M. “Navajo Code Talker.” Boys’ Quest 10.4 (2004): 44. Middle Search Plus. Web. 15 Jan. 2013.) The second article is Secret Language (Citation: Gibson, Karen. “Secret Language.” Boys’ Life 92.5 (2002): 14. Middle Search Plus. Web. 15 Jan. 2013.)
